Bankruptcies increased by 4.1% y/y, restructurings up by 33% in 2018

There were 615 bankruptcies of companies published in the Court and Economic Monitor in the whole of 2018, compared to 591 a year earlier, according to the Central Economic Information Center (COIG). This means an increase of 4.1 percent y/y. In turn, the number of restructuring proceedings increased by 33 percent y/y to 465 cases.

The highest number of proceedings concerned limited-liability companies at 55.28 percent, compared to 56.5 percent in 2017. Bankruptcies of individual businesses reached 25.85 percent, down from 26.57 percent in 2017.

In 2018, the majority of bankruptcy proceedings were announced in the Mazowieckie Voivodship (23.74 percent) and Śląsk (11.71 percent). The industries most affected were wholesale and retail trade, industrial processing and construction.
