Deflation continues in August

Prices of consumer goods and services in Poland declined by 0.3 percent year-on-year, according to data released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) on Monday. In month-on-month terms prices fell by 0.4  percent.

Kopacz officially named future PM by president

President Bronisław Komorowski has formally asked Ewa Kopacz to form a new government after the resignation of Donald Tusk. New ministers should be sworn in on September 22 and on September 27 the new PM will present her program to the Sejm.

Energy firms to buy coal mines?

Some of the coal mines owned by sector giant Kompania Węglowa will be acquired by exporter Węglokoks and others may be integrated into energy groups Enea, PGE and Tauron, Deputy Economy Minister Tomasz Tomczykiewicz was quoted as saying by the Polish Press Agency.

EC suspends support for farmers

The European Commission has suspended financial help for EU farmers suffering from the Russian embargo, the Commission announced in a press release on Thursday. It is now considering a different scheme.

Lower gas influx from the east – PGNiG

Poland’s natural gas giant PGNiG has observed a reduced supply of the fuel within the Yamal Contract on connection points at the borders with Ukraine and Belarus, the company said in a press release on Wednesday.
