ABW searches offices of biggest coal miner

The Internal Security Agency (ABW) has searched the headquarters of Poland’s biggest coal mining firm Kompania Węglowa (KW) and the offices of one of its mines, the agency’s spokesperson Maciej Karczyński was quoted as saying by Polish Radio.

BNP Paribas bids for BGŻ shares

French banking group BNP Paribas announced a tender offer for all shares in Bank BGŻ at PLN 80.47 apiece, the deal’s broker DM Banku Handlowego said in a recent statement.

Unemployment confirmed at 11.9%

Poland’s registered unemployment rate dropped to 11.9 percent at the end of July compared to 12 percent in June, according to data published by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) on Tuesday.

Majority of Poles positive about nuclear plant

The number of Poles accepting the construction of a nuclear plant in the country amounts to 64 percent, while 25 percent are against it, the IAR press agency reports. The survey was conducted by the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM).

Lotos inks Polish Investments deal

Lotos Petrobaltic, a unit of Poland’s second largest oil firm Grupa Lotos has signed financing deal with Polskie Inwestycje Rozwojowe, operator of the Polish Investments program, and with lenders BGK and Bank Pekao.

PGE may start mine construction in 2018

Poland’s largest power utility PGE plans to launch the construction of a hard coal min in Gubin in 2018, the company said in recent news release. The construction of a power generation plant on the site could then be launched in 2025.
