The Polish Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, assured media that the liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal in Świnoujście is to be completed at the beginning of 2015.

“The deadline for launching the LNG terminal at the beginning of next year is very realistic,” said Tusk. Qatargas, the supplier of the gas has signed a take or pay contract with Poland for the delivery of LNG. At the same time, the Polish PM said that Poland will not pay for gas that is not delivered due to delays in terminal construction.

“There is no risk that we will have to pay for unreceived gas,” said Tusk. He also outlined three alternative scenarios that included a third-party purchase of gas, use of an alternative terminal or a postponement of shipments. Poland’s natural gas group PGNiG signed the LNG contract with the Qatari firm back in 2009.
