The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways GDDKiA signed and agreement with a consortium of construction firms Budimex and Strabag for the construction of a 13.2-kilometer section of the A1 highway between Kalin and Tuszyn, in central Poland, Budimex said in a statement. The deal’s value is PLN 265.9 million (net), which is equivalent to PLN 327 million (gross). The leader in the consortium is Budimex, with 99 percent of shares of the contract. The construction work should be completed within 22 months upon the conclusion of the agreement.
In January of this year, Polimex-Mostostal terminated its contract with GDDKiA for the missing 40-kilometer section of A1 between Stryków and Tuszyn. The missing piece was later divided into three sections with tenders carried out for each of them separately. The first section will also be completed by the Budimex-Strabag consortium for PLN 340 million (gross), while the middle piece – by construction company Mota-Engil for PLN 361 million.
Once the missing section is completed, Poland will finally have a double-lane road connection between the Baltic sea in the north and the border with the Czech Republic in the south.
