General gov’t deficit at 2.4% of GDP, debt at 54.4% in 2016

Poland’s general government deficit (central and local government sector) amounted to 2.4 percent of GDP in 2016, compared with 2.6 percent a year before, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported.

General government debt increased to 54.4 percent of GDP, whereas it totaled 51.1 percent of GDP in 2015, GUS also informed citing preliminary data.

According to the forecasts, the ministry of finance planned the general government deficit to stand at 2.8-2.9 percent of GDP, while the European Commission projections assumed 2.3 percent of GDP deficit.
