High GDP growth ‘not sustainable’ – deputy FinMin

The high GDP growth rate seen at the beginning of 2018 is not sustainable, believes deputy finance minister Leszek Skiba. He added that the forecasted GDP growth rate for 2019 is reliable.

“What we see in 2018 is better than the assumptions, but it is cyclical, i.e. it will return to the trend in 2019. It is natural for us that GDP growth will be slower. We are glad that at the beginning 2018 indicators are good, but in the long run, it is not sustainable,” said Skiba.

“A large part of what is happening results, among others, from the good situation in the euro zone which in the second half of 2018 and in 2019 will not be so good anymore,” he added.

In the latest forecast, the Ministry estimates the real GDP growth rate in 2018 and 2019 at 3.8 percent.
