Polish Internal Security Agency (ISA) detained two men – a Huawei employee and a former Polish security agent. Both are accused of spying for China. The Huawei employee is a Chinese citizen Weijing W. responsible for sales to Poland. Another detained person is a Polish citizen Piotr D., a former high-rank official at the Internal Security Agency who recently worked at Orange Polska.
“The materials collected by the Internal Security Agency show that they both carried out espionage activities against Poland.” a spokesperson for ISA Stanislaw Zaryn said. If found guilty, the detained face up to 10 years in prison.
Huawei said in a statement “it complies with all applicable laws and regulations in the countries where it operates and requires every employee to abide by the laws and regulations in the countries where they are based.”
