Swedish IKEA plans to start a pilot project allowing the customers to rent furniture instead of buying, Puls Biznesu reported. The first leasing trial should begin in Switzerland already in February.
After a leasing period is over, a customer will be able to return the product and lease the new one. “And instead of throwing those away, we refurbish them a little and we could sell them, prolonging the lifecycle of the products,” Torbjorn Loof, chief executive of Inter Ikea told Financial Times.
Last year IKEA started consulting with clients in Poland regarding such a solution, Katarzyna Broniarek, Corporate Communication Director at the Polish IKEA Retail said. However, the research is at the early stage and it is hard to say yet when furniture leasing may be introduced in Poland.
