Several cabin crew members working for state-owned carrier PLL LOT were caught trafficking drugs to the United States and Canada. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw has charged them with smuggling 100 kilograms of cocaine and 100,000 ecstasy pills in a scheme that started in 2002. Most of the defendants have pleaded guilty.

The flight attendants were packing drugs into men’s t-shirt and belts with special compartments. Allegedly one t-shirt could hold 7,000 ecstasy pills.

The scam was revealed after accomplices in the US decided to cooperate with the police in exchange for being included in the witness protection program.

It is believed that that members of Warsaw’s ‘Mokotów Gang’ were behind the smuggling ring.
