The Minister of the Environment has extended the mining license for the so-called Bełchatów Fields in the Bełchatów Brown Coal Mine, owned by PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna (PGE GiEK), a subsidiary of Polska Grupa Energetyczna (PGE), until December 31, 2026, the company said. The extension does not involve enlarging the mine’s area of activity.
At present, the Bełchatów Mine uses fuel from two fields: Szczercow and Bełchatów. Last year, it produced a total of 42.6 million metric tonnes of raw material.
Fuel from the mining will go to Bełchatów Power Station, which provides about 20 percent of Poland’s electricity.
The share of the PGE Group in electricity production in Poland is approx. 40 percent, while in the electricity distribution market it is approx. 26 percent. The company has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 2009.
