“Discussions between France and Poland concerning a Caracal helicopter deal will be continued in the upcoming few days,” a Ministry of Defense (MON) spokesperson informed PAP Wednesday.
In April 2015, under the leadership of then-head Tomasz Siemoniak, the MON negotiated a deal for 50 H225M Caracal Eurocopters produced by Airbus. The Law and Justice party (PiS) objected to the deal, and upon taking power in November declared that it would reexamine the French tender and bidding process. It is not out of the question that the tender process may be repeated.
MON Minister Antoni Macierewicz met with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris on Tuesday to discuss national security matters as well as the security of the Eastern and Southern borders of NATO. AFP reported after the meeting that France is against any sort of cancellation of the tender.
