Number of insolvencies up by 14% y/y in H1

The number of insolvencies of Polish companies increased by 14 percent y/y to 580 in the period from January to July 2018, according to Euler Hermes on the basis of official data from Court and Economic Monitor. The transport sector saw the most insolvencies where the y/y increase amounted to 29 percent.

Insolvency includes the inability to pay liabilities to suppliers, resulting in bankruptcy or any form of restructuring proceedings.

The current problems of the Polish transport sector are the effects of the introduced regulations on the EU markets (minimum wage and drivers’ standard), increase in costs (mainly wages) and low margins, which results from the huge fragmentation of the industry and the associated price fight.
