PKP Intercity has serviced 1 million passengers of the Express Intercity Premium (EIP, Pendolino) since December 14 2014, when the high-speed trains were launched, the railway company informed in a press release on Tuesday.
“Rail is back in the game. In April, we recorded a 23 percent increase in the number of passengers compared with April 2014. According to our statistics, today we carried the millionth passenger,” said Jakub Karnowski, PKP’s CEO.
The millionth passenger was traveling from Kraków to Warsaw.
PKP has bought 20 high-speed trains from Alstom. They are operating between Warsaw and four other cities – Gdańsk, Wrocław, Katowice and Kraków.
