Poland’s largest power utility PGE plans to launch the construction of a hard coal min in Gubin in 2018, the company said in recent news release. The construction of a power generation plant on the site could then be launched in 2025.
If that scenario is carried out, then electricity generated from Gubin coal would become available in 2030, PGE also said.
Earlier this year, the company said that it expected to obtain a mining license for the Gubin deposit after 2016. A more detailed schedule would depend on EU climate policy.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in May this year that PGE”s Gubin project is part of Poland’s energy security strategy.
