The Minister of Education, Anna Zalewska, announced on Monday that Poland will scrap grammar schools (gimnazjum), and restore 8-year primary schools and 4-year secondary schools (liceum).
The changes will be effective as of 2017. That year, first graders and seventh graders will be taught with a new core curriculum.
Changes will also be introduced in vocational education. After finishing primary school, pupils will continue their education in secondary schools of general profile (liceum), a five-year techincal courses or two-step basic vocational schools (szkoła zawodowa).
