Sejm Speaker Radosław Sikorski, a former foreign affairs minister, survived a no confidence vote on Friday morning. Only 146 voted in favor of the motion filed by Law and Justice, while 240 were against it and 48 abstained from voting.

The opposition party motivated the motion with controversy that arose over Sikorski’s statement that back in 2008, Russian President Vladimir Putin had proposed President Bronisław Komorowski that Poland partake in a partition of Ukraine. Sikorski later retracted his statement citing “a memory lapse.”
