Small rate hike possible in early 2018 – RPP Member

Łukasz Hardt, member of the Poland’s Monetary Policy Council RPP said that a small interest rates hike might be possible early next year if inflation continues to be nearing its 2.5 percent target. “The fact that at the conference after the November RPP meeting I said that it is too early to increase rates does not mean that it will also be too early in February or March,” he said in an interview with Rzeczpospolita daily.

The Central Bank’s latest inflation projection sees CPI accelerating to 2.7 percent in 2019 from 2.3 percent in 2018 and 1.9 percent this year.

Central Bank head Adam Glapiński has said numerous times that he expects first interest rates hikes in 2019.
