Drone nearly hit plane approaching Warsaw’s airport

A Lufthansa Embraer ERJ-195 traveling from Munich to Warsaw was at 800 meters and three minutes to landing when its pilots saw a drone within 100 meters of the plane, Polish broadcaster Radio Zet informed. Air traffic controllers and police were informed of the incident.

The Warsaw Chopin Airport registered 11.3 percent passenger number growth in 2013, the highest among EU airports, according to data published by statistics office Eurostat on Thursday. It served 10.7 million passengers last year.

Warsaw Airport to be commercialized

Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure is preparing the commercialization of Polish Airports (PPL), which operates the Warsaw Chopin Airport, Puls Biznesu reports. The plan is to transform the state enterprise into a commercial entity, majority-owned by the State Treasury.
