Taxi drivers blocked the major street of Barcelona on Friday in a protest against online ride-hailing services like Uber or Cabify. The strike caused traffic jams reaching up to 5 kilometers.
The protest follows new regulations for online ride-hailing services adopted by the Catalan government on Friday. Under the new rules, customers should book online ride-hailing services at least 15 minutes in advance. Meanwhile, taxi drivers require to extend this time to 12 hours. Cabify representatives in Spain said that the new decree “threatens to limit citizens’ decisions” related to the free choice of the way of traveling.
