Amazon canceled plans to build a second headquarters (HQ2) in New York City after protests of local politicians and dwellers, who were unhappy about $3 billion tax incentives offered to the tech giant.
"While polls show that 70 percent of New Yorkers support our plans and investment, a number of state and local politicians have made it clear that they oppose our presence and will not work with us to build the type of relationships that are required to go forward with the project we and many others envisioned in Long Island City," Amazon wrote in its blog.
In November Amazon chose New York City and Northern Virginia as two locations for HQ2. In each, the company expected to create 25,000 jobs. After the decision to abandon New York, Amazon said it does not plan to reopen HQ2 search. However, the company wants to proceed as planned in Northern Virginia.
