Multiple countries vying to obtain second nuclear power plant contract
Poland’s Energy Ministry plans to choose the technology and strategic partner for the country’s second nuclear power plant in 2027. U.S., French and Canadian companies are competing for the project. Preferred locations remain Bełchatów and Konin, with Kozienice and Połaniec as backup sites. The first Polish nuclear plant is being built in Choczewo by Westinghouse and Bechtel, with three AP1000 reactors totaling 3.75 GWe and the first unit planned for 2036.
The second plant is expected to start construction around 2032 and launch its first unit around 2040. The government says Polish firms could provide about 40% of the first reactor’s value, rising to 70% for later units as local skills and certification improve.
