Retail sales growth below expectations

Retail trade in Poland grew by 1.2 percent year-on-year in June, according to data published by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) on Wednesday. In month-on-month terms there was a 1.1-percent decline.

The registered unemployment rate in Poland stood at 12 percent in June, according to data published by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) on Wednesday. Poland’s Labor Ministry expected the figure to be 12.1 percent.

Orlen with major loss on impairments

Poland’s largest oil company PKN Orlen recorded a net loss of PLN 5.39 billion in the second quarter of 2014, the company said on Wednesday. The result was highly affected by impairments, mostly on the company’s Lithuanian unit Orlen Lietuva.
