Prices soar in December fueling inflation
In December 2019, inflation amounted to as much as 3.4 percent in annual terms versus 2.6 percent in November, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported in a quick estimate of this data. Food prices are very high. Experts have no illusions: it will get worse in the coming months. In the first quarter inflation may reach even 4.5 percent, and the whole year 2020 may end around 3 percent.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 7% y/y, energy prices – dropped by 1.8% y/y, while fuel prices for private means of transport decreased by 0.2% y/y. In monthly terms, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.2%, energy carriers increased by 0.1%, and fuels for private means of transport increased by 2.1%, the GUS also said.
