Poland's government has adopted the Electronic Communications Act, announced Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski on Platform X. The new legislation aims to improve consumer rights, technology standards, and emergency response systems.
The Act introduces an independent tool to compare electronic communication services and requires companies to make contracts with consumers more transparent by including a concise summary of key terms. It also provides pre-paid service users with the option to request a refund of remaining funds if their account expires.
Additionally, the Act mandates that electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, headphones, headsets, readers, and laptops have a single universal socket—USB-C.
Gawkowski announced that Poland will implement the Advance Mobile Location (AML) service, designed to reduce emergency response times by approximately half a minute by allowing emergency services to locate callers more accurately.
Gawkowski also noted that delays in processing the Act by the previous government led to Poland facing a fine exceeding PLN 100 million.
