Amber Gold founders sentenced to prison

On Wednesday, the District Court in Gdańsk sentenced Marcin P. (former head of Amber Gold) to a total sentence of 15 years in prison. His wife Katarzyna P. got a total sentence of 12.5 years in prison. This is the final conclusion of a trial regarding one of the most famous financial scandals in Poland in recent years.
The trial began in March 2016. Marcin P. and Katarzyna P. were tried on four and ten charges respectively. The prosecutor’s office called for 25 years in prison for the accused, while the defenders demanded their acquittal.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Marcin P. and Katarzyna P., who created a financial pyramid scheme, in the years 2009-2012 cheated over 18,000 of the company’s clients. This resulted in the clients losing a total of almost PLN 851 million. The accusations also concerned illegal running a bank business and money laundering.
