The banking sector in Poland does not expect significant contributions to the Borrower Support Fund (FWK) due to government flood relief programs, according to Tadeusz Białek, president of the Polish Bank Association (ZBP). The FWK currently holds around PLN 2 billion, and the anticipated claims are lower than expected. Banks are preparing an out-of-court moratorium to defer loan repayments for affected clients.
The government has announced financial support for flood victims, providing non-repayable assistance equivalent to PLN 12 loan installments. This banking initiative will differ from past support programs, such as during COVID-19, and will follow successful methods from 2020. Białek emphasized that government proposals could offer greater relief to borrowers.
