Basic cereal crop expected 4% lower than in 2022 - GUS
The Main Statistical Office (GUS) reported that the estimated harvest of basic cereals with cereal mixtures is 25.9 million tons, about 4% less than the harvest in 2022. The preliminary estimates of other crops in 2023 are as follows: rapeseed and mustard grain harvest is estimated at around 3.6 million tons, about 1% less than last year; vegetable production is estimated at about 3.9 million tons, 3% lower compared to the previous year; fruit tree harvest is expected to be 9% lower than last year, at over 4.3 million tons; fruit from bushes and berry plantations is estimated at 592,000 tons, about 1% less than in 2022. The insufficient rainfall in May and June negatively affected crop production possibilities, particularly for cereals.
The estimated cultivated area for basic cereals with cereal mixtures in 2023 is about 2% smaller than the previous year, totaling around 5.7 million hectares.
