As a result of Saturday’s hailstorm in the Malopolska region, local vegetable crops suffered. Biedronka has decided to buy 156 tons of cabbage from farmers in the Igołomia-Wawrzeńczyce community, near Kraków, which was most affected by the storm and offer it to customers.
Cabbage grown in this region, despite the hailstorm, is of full value - assures Biedronka chain. As a result of the hail, its outer leaves were slightly damaged. However, it does not impair the taste or nutritional value of the cabbage in any way, because the outer leaves are usually removed after the purchase anyway - the chain adds.
Biedronka has announced that it will buy a total of 120 thousand pieces from local farmers in Wawrzeńczyce, Złotniki, Rudno Dolne, Stręgoborzyce, Łaganów, Karwin, Żębocin, Grębocin, Rudno Górne and Dobranowice. Hail losses are the greatest there.
Cabbage after the hail in the region of Igołomia-Wawrzeńczyce municipality will be available from Thursday, June 10 in selected Biedronka stores in Warsaw and the surrounding area and in Lubuskie, Dolnośląskie, Śląskie, Małopolskie, Wielkopolskie, Łódzkie, and Lubelskie provinces.
Last year the chain sold 40 thousand tons of various types of cabbage, from white and young cabbage to red and Chinese cabbage.
