Border with Belarus closed until further notice

Poland’s border with Belarus will remain closed indefinitely, despite the end of the Russian-Belarusian “Zapad 2025” military exercises, the Interior Ministry announced. The closure, in force since 12 September, affects all road and rail crossings and suspends passenger and freight traffic in both directions. Authorities said movement will resume only when security is fully guaranteed.
Meanwhile, Poland will reinforce its border barrier, adding drone detection systems, autonomous surveillance drones, and electronic monitoring. Officials cited persistent illegal migration pressure since 2021, with over 25,700 crossing attempts this year. Existing electronic barriers, including a 171 km system with 5,000 cameras, have sharply reduced successful crossings. EU funds are planned to support further border security, including along the Ukrainian frontier.
