Poland added more than 150 km of highways, expressways and bypasses in the first half of 2026, with a similar amount expected to open in the second half. The country’s high-speed road network now exceeds 5,500 km and is ultimately planned to reach around 8,000 km, meaning most construction work has already been completed. While this is good news for drivers, it means the road-building market is shrinking for construction companies. As a result, major firms are diversifying. Unibep and Mirbud entered the rail sector last year, while Budimex is expanding into energy and planning data center projects.

Leading construction groups are also looking to Port Polska, military investments, nuclear power and transmission grids for future contracts.
