Consumer prices in Poland up 1.7% y/y in March

Consumer price inflation in Poland, as measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) that is compiled by Eurostat, increased by 1.7 y/y in March. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) that is calculated by Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) saw the same y/y growth last month, even though the HICP and CPI calculation methods differ. Data for the HICP index come from household budgets and national accounts, while data for the CPI index come from household budgets only. The HICP index is the basis for assessing price stability in line with the inflation criterion specified in the Maastricht Treaty.
