Creotech Quantum becomes project leader for ESA for detectors
Poland’s Creotech Quantum will lead a €2.33 million European Space Agency project to develop superconducting nanowire detectors capable of detecting individual photons. The company’s share of the work is worth €1.2 million. Over 24 months, it will develop electronics and software, conduct testing, and prepare a product development strategy. The detectors will support secure quantum key distribution between satellites and ground stations, alongside advanced optical communications. Their sensitivity could enable data transmission over vast distances, including links with lunar bases and deep-space missions.
The project aims to advance prototypes toward commercialization, with potential applications in space, defense, telecommunications, and critical infrastructure.
