Czech Insurer Direct pojišťovna Enters Polish Market
Czech insurer Direct pojišťovna has entered the Polish market by acquiring the full insurance portfolio of wefox Insurance AG. The move adds a new player to Poland’s growing motor insurance sector, which in 2024 saw over 29.7 million active OC policies and more than one million claims, according to the Insurance Guarantee Fund.
“We see strong growth potential in Poland and are entering with humility, ready to learn and tailor our offer to local needs,” Michal Řezníček, CEO of Direct pojišťovna, said.
Initially, the company will focus on motor insurance, offering OC, Autocasco, and additional vehicle policies. The wefox acquisition ensures continuity of coverage and claims handling for current customers.
“We’re starting with a solid base, not from scratch,” Řezníček added.
The company also plans to introduce home insurance soon, followed by travel and pet insurance. Direct becomes the 18th insurer active in Poland’s motor insurance market.
