PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) plans to begin modernizing the Warsaw cross-city rail line no earlier than 2029, following the completion of the Warsaw East station upgrade, scheduled for 2026–2029. The tender for this project is set to be announced by the end of 2025.
The cross-city line's reconstruction will accommodate potential future structures above it, such as buildings. However, the complex tunnel construction may require diverting rail traffic temporarily. The project, estimated to cost several billion PLN, includes upgrading 50 km of tracks, over 30 engineering structures, two bridges over the Vistula River, and two tunnels.
Delays in modernization could increase system failures, impacting train operations.
