Dep Prime Minister: Poland needs a Digital Services Act to fight Russian disinformation
Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski told Gazeta Wyborcza that Poland needs weapons against Russian trolls “as strong as a conventional army.” He stressed that new legislation, modeled on the EU’s Digital Services Act, will allow authorities to remove illegal online content, particularly disinformation spread by bots and troll farms. Gawkowski cited recent Russian drone provocations as examples of how false narratives quickly spread online, reaching 60 million views in one case.
He emphasized that the law is not about silencing political opponents but about protecting society, the military, and Poland’s reputation. He expects the bill to pass by year’s end, giving Poland stronger tools to counter Russian propaganda.
