Dual use ICEYE and PIAST satellites to be launched November 22 by SpaceX
The launch of a Falcon 9 rocket carrying one ICEYE satellite and three Polish PIAST satellites has been postponed to 22 November, SpaceX informed the Polish side. The satellites form part of Poland’s new SAR Earth Observation System, which will operate under full national control. ICEYE’s radar satellites can capture high-resolution imagery (up to 25 cm) day or night, regardless of cloud cover or weather. Under a May agreement, Poland will initially receive three SAR satellites with the option to expand the constellation.
The PIAST satellites, developed in Poland, will support optoelectronic reconnaissance and data processing. The system has dual-use applications: it strengthens military situational awareness and can also aid civilian services during floods, fires, and crises.
