Environmental Crimes Prosecuted Across Borders

Throughout the EU, the European Parliament is strengthening penalties for environmental crimes. Individuals and large corporations in every EU country must be aware that while justice may be blind, it has increasingly long arms to capture those who mistreat the environment.
We often treat the environment as an inanimate matter that does not feel the effects of our decisions. We see it more as a nice background for humans than a complex ecosystem. Now we will have to see not only the background but the whole picture.
"It is high time we started combating cross-border crimes at the EU level. This will be possible thanks to uniform and deterrent sanctions. (...) Any person in a management position who is responsible for pollution will be able to be held accountable," Antonius Manders, rapporteur for the European Parliament, announced.
