EU ministers want to introduce airline tax to fight climate change

Finance ministers of nine EU countries proposed to introduce an additional airline tax to protect the environment. Finance ministers of Bulgaria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, the Netherlands, and Sweden have sent a joint letter to the European Commission. The ministers emphasized in the letter that aviation is relatively weakly taxed, at least compared to other means of transport. At the same time, they remind you that planes are extremely non-ecological.

Ministers would like the Commission to deal with the matter "as soon as possible". However, they do not indicate what would be the size of the new tax.
