The złoty weakened sharply after the U.S. Federal Reserve raised its benchmark rate by 25 basis points to 3.75–4.00 percent, taking the federal funds range above the National Bank of Poland’s reference rate. The move strengthened the dollar and pushed the euro to its highest level against the złoty since November 2024.
USD/PLN climbed to about 3.8110 on Thursday morning after the dollar gained more than four groszy on Wednesday. EUR/PLN moved above the 4.35 resistance level and traded near 4.3638, while the Swiss franc rose to about PLN 4.6097. PKO BP analysts said the złoty’s pressure reflected both the Fed decision and the earlier technical break in EUR/PLN. A stronger dollar can also raise Polish import costs for fuel, raw materials and electronics. The euro was around 1.8 groszy below its highest level since November 2023 in morning trading.
