Fragment of ceiling in Toruń Plaza shopping center falls off, shoppers evacuated

On Monday evening, a section of the suspended ceiling collapsed in the Cinema City area of the Toruń Plaza shopping center, prompting the evacuation of around 1,400 people. No injuries were reported. The collapse affected about 100 m² of ceiling, damaging a fire sprinkler system and causing water leakage. Firefighters, police, and medical teams secured the site, and authorities launched an investigation.
Initially closed, the mall reopened Tuesday morning after inspections confirmed the building was structurally safe. Only the cinema zone remains closed, while several stores (Zara, HalfPrice, C&A, Apteka) stay temporarily shut for repairs. Toruń Plaza, opened in 2011 and managed by ST Plaza Management, offers 40,000 m² of retail space.
