France’s EDF not withdrawing from building nuclear power plant in Poland

Recent rumors suggested that France’s EDF planned to scale back international operations and withdraw from Poland’s nuclear program, but the company denies these claims. EDF remains committed to building Poland’s second nuclear power plant and continues active participation in global nuclear projects. CEO Bernard Fontana reaffirmed EDF’s strategy to expand internationally, supported by the French government, citing projects like Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C in the UK, which will feature EPR reactors.
EDF plans to maintain its reactor portfolio—EPR 1650 MW, EPR 1200 MW, and Nuward 340 MW—and protect its industrial supply chain with partners like Framatome. The company will work with the Polish government and local industry during the upcoming competitive dialogue to select a partner and technology for Poland’s second nuclear plant.
