Fresh Logistics Polska is reshaping cold chain logistics through data, automation, stronger carrier partnerships, and operational innovation. As Jakub Zając, Operations Director at Fresh Logistics Polska, explains, these efforts show how efficiency, sustainability, and driver support can strengthen increasingly complex supply chains.

Products with a short shelf life require strict temperature con- trol and exceptional opera- tional precision, leaving very little margin for error. A delayed delivery or disruption of the cold chain can make goods unsellable, resulting in waste and financial losses. For this reason, every process at Fresh Logistics Polska is designed to ensure reliability, product safety, and uninterrupted delivery per- formance, regardless of seasonality or external market conditions.

At the same time, modern cold chain logistics requires a new approach to sup- ply chain management. Based on more than twenty years of experience in the industry, I believe one of the biggest challenges is the lack of a shared objec- tive among supply chain participants. The chain consists of shippers, logistics operators, and consignees, typically retail networks. Too often, each party focuses on optimizing its own processes without considering the impact on oth- ers. As a market leader, we actively pro- mote a partnership-based model built on transparency, collaboration, and data- driven decision-making.

Advanced analytics plays a central role in that approach. At Fresh Logistics, we use comprehensive reporting systems that monitor every stage of a shipment, from arrival at a distribution center to the delivery vehicle’s departure from the consignee’s premises. This allows us to identify operational bottlenecks and measure performance with precision.

The value of accurate data is particularly visible when discussing unloading times. By analyzing real operational data, we can have fact-based conversations with retail partners and jointly improve procedures. Instead of relying on assumptions, we focus on measura- ble indicators that help all parties understand where inefficiencies occur and how they can be eliminated. To support this process, we have dedicated manag- ers responsible for building relationships with retail receivers and coordinating improvement initiatives.

One of our most successful operational innovations is the proprietary Drop & Drive solution. Traditionally, driv- ers are required to wait while goods are inspected and documentation is completed. This often results in long vehicle dwell times and reduced transport efficiency. Under the Drop & Drive model, drivers deliver the trailer, unload it, and immediately continue with their next assignment. The verification process is completed later by the consignee, while documentation is collected by another driver serving the same location.

The benefits are substantial. Drivers spend more time on the road and less time waiting, warehouse teams can per- form inspections at a more convenient pace, and yard congestion is reduced. The solution has already been implemented successfully at approximately 25 locations across Poland and has been well received by retail partners due to its simplicity and operational effectiveness.

Supporting carriers and drivers is our strategic priority. Across Europe, the transport sector is facing a severe labor shortage and an aging workforce. The average age of professional drivers con- tinues to rise, while relatively few young people are entering the profession. Without action, driver availability may become one of the greatest constraints on future supply chain performance.

For this reason, Raben Group launched the awareness campaign “No Drivers, No Transport,” highlighting the critical role drivers play in everyday life. At Fresh Logistics, we work to improve the day-to- day reality of drivers by creating better operating conditions and treating them as true business partners.

Our business model relies on long- term cooperation with contracted carriers, who provide nearly 90% of our transport capacity. We offer financial sta- bility, reliable payments, and long-term cooperation, all of which are essential in a highly competitive market. We also pro- vide refrigerated trailers for the majority of operations, significantly reducing the investment burden on transport compa- nies and helping them focus on running their core business.

In recent years, we have invested heavily in fleet modernization. As part of our fleet renewal program, we replaced 110 trailers with newer refrigerated models equipped with the latest technology and designed to meet current environmental standards. Furthermore, we have placed an order for an addi- tional 30 new trailers, which will further strengthen our transport capacity and operational efficiency. In parallel, the fleet operated by our subcontractors has been upgraded to comply with Euro 6 emission requirements. These investments improve reliability, reduce environmental impact, and support our long- term sustainability goals.

Equally important is improving the driver experience. We understand that drivers are most productive when they can focus on driving rather than per- forming additional administrative or manual tasks. That is why we continuously simplify processes, reduce paperwork, and eliminate unnecessary activities such as excessive pallet handling whenever possible. Our objective is to create an environment where drivers can work efficiently, safely, and with a sense of professional respect.

Sustainability remains a key part of our strategy. We actively implement ESG principles and look for solutions that simultaneously improve efficiency and reduce emissions. One example is the use of Double Deck technology, which allows pallets to be loaded on two levels inside a refrigerated trailer. This significantly increases transport capacity, ena- bling up to 66 pallets to be carried in a single vehicle instead of the standard 33. The result is fewer trips, lower CO2 emissions, and greater operational efficiency.

Looking ahead, we believe the future of logistics will be shaped by automation and intelligent process management. Automated cross-docking facilities, advanced warehouse technologies, and smarter use of data will become increasingly important as companies seek to compensate for labor shortages and ris- ing operating costs.

The future of logistics depends not only on technology but also on stronger partnerships, realistic planning, and mutual understanding across the supply chain. At Fresh Logistics Polska, we are proving that operational excellence, environmental responsibility, and respect for people can go hand in hand. Together with our customers, carriers, and retail partners, we are committed to building a more resilient, sustainable, and professional logistics ecosystem for the future.
