Fuel price caps return through Monday
Poland has reintroduced maximum fuel prices alongside temporary cuts in VAT and excise duty, with the first caps applying from Saturday through Monday. The Energy Ministry set maximum prices at PLN 6.73 per liter for 95-octane gasoline, PLN 7.59 for 98-octane gasoline and PLN 7.88 for diesel. The government expects the package to lower pump prices by roughly PLN 1.20-1.30 per liter compared with levels before the intervention for motorists.
The measures follow President Karol Nawrocki’s signature on legislation creating a 60 percent tax on excess profits from liquid-fuel sales, although he also referred the law to the Constitutional Tribunal for post-enactment review. The tax applies to excess profits generated from March 1, 2026 through March 31, 2027. VAT and excise reductions are scheduled to remain in force through December 31, while new maximum fuel prices will be announced regularly.
