The Future Inflation Index (WPI) rose most strongly in two years in January, the Investment and Economic Cycles Office (BIEC) announced. WPI in January 2020 increased by 0.4 points.
WPI forecast several months in advance the direction of changes in the prices of consumer goods and services in Poland.
“There is a lot of concern in the public space both about the level of inflation in the coming months and about the sustainability of inflation trends. Its amount and whether it will stay with us for longer will be determined by a combination of local and global factors,” the press release states.
The prices of consumer goods and services in December 2019 increased by 3.4 percent y/y, and compared to the previous month they increased by 0.8 percent, according to earlier estimates, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) said.
