Gas warning

Europe could enter the coming winter with its lowest natural gas reserves in more than a decade, raising concerns over supply security and further price increases. Gas storage facilities across the continent are only around 54% full, well below seasonal norms, while Germany’s storage sites remain below 50% capacity. Analysts attribute the shortfall to increased competition from Asian buyers, who are attracting liquefied natural gas cargoes away from Europe following disruptions to Middle Eastern supplies.

Benchmark European gas prices have almost doubled over the past year, climbing to more than €62 per MWh after eight consecutive daily gains. Market participants have also increased bullish positions, reflecting expectations that tighter supplies and stronger Asian demand will keep prices elevated throughout the winter heating season.
