Income Inequality Grows as Median Wage Falls Below Average in Poland

According to data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), in February 2024, the median gross monthly salary in the national economy was 23.7 percent lower than the average gross monthly salary, which stood at PLN 8,418.24. The median is the amount below which half of the employees earn and above which the other half earn.
GUS data highlights significant income inequality, as the average wage is inflated by high earners. In practice, most employees earn less than the average, with half earning below PLN 6,549 gross monthly. Only 10 percent of Poles earn at least PLN 14,216.
