JD Vance Clashes with Europe
At the Munich Security Conference, U.S. Vice President JD Vance criticized European governments for suppressing free speech, ignoring citizens’ will, and mishandling migration. He argued that Europe’s biggest threat is internal, stemming from a drift away from democratic values.
His remarks drew sharp rebukes from European leaders. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius rejected comparisons to authoritarian regimes, labeling them "unacceptable." EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas expressed surprise that the U.S. seemed intent on provoking conflict with allies instead of focusing on shared threats like Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
