KGHM donation investigation into PiS campaign
The District Prosecutor's Office in Legnica has launched an investigation into alleged illegal financing of the 2023 PiS election campaign through the KGHM Polska Miedź Foundation. Reports suggest that nearly PLN 16 million was funneled into the campaign, including funds used for promotional items like T-shirts, mugs, and umbrellas bearing PiS logos. The investigation, initiated on November 15, examines whether these funds were used outside the official campaign fund.
The inquiry focuses on whether KGHM made unjustified expenses and allocations to NGOs, including organizations linked to “Gazeta Polska.” A separate case involving PLN 9 million for volunteer fire departments is also being investigated. If charges are confirmed, those responsible could face prison sentences or fines. The investigation is overseen by the Internal Security Agency.
