Labor risks rise
The Bureau of Information and Economic Cycles (BIEC) has raised concerns over Poland's labor market after its July Labor Market Index (WRP) increased to 77.7 points, signaling a greater risk of rising unemployment in the months ahead. Although the registered unemployment rate fell to 5.8% in June, analysts say the improvement is increasingly being driven by seasonal and statistical factors rather than sustained economic strength. Four of the index's six components now point toward weaker labor market conditions, while businesses remain cautious about hiring despite a gradual increase in job vacancies.
BIEC notes that many companies are replacing departing employees rather than expanding their workforce, and registrations at labor offices following employer layoffs have risen for a second consecutive month. While Poland's labor market remains relatively resilient, the report suggests the steady improvement seen over the past year may begin to lose momentum as economic uncertainty weighs on hiring decisions.
